Bernie had left the Murder Commission four years or so earlier (resigned before being pushed) due to the demand to follow the political line – Join the Party or become redundant – permanently!

Bernie, being a social democrat, took the second path and went private. – Not married, no kids, no mortgage, no debt of any appreciable size; but was any of that really the reason underlying his choice?

Although the author Philip Kerr doesn’t explicitly state it, Bernie hadn’t lost his humanity and more importantly his moral structure. Albeit, the need for justified killing (well staying alive) was not far from his capacity.
If we remember from our modern history classes, Germany from the early 1930’s had fallen into a state of mass psychosis where it became in effect a follow the leader dictatorship.
The problem was, that with the expulsion of those police who did not follow the party line, the ranks were filled with second rate performers and thugs and as a result actual crime increased while reported crime decreased. The new police got in on the crime act as well. Trouble was, when a politically embarrassing series of horrific crimes erupted, there were no officers of the highest calibre left who were needed to solve the cases.

Bernie gets a Gestapo invitation to visit General Reinhardt Heydrich, chief of the Reich Security Main Office and off to the races we go. Trying to solve the crime, while himself staying one step ahead of the moral monsters and their preferred method of crime control – a bullet in the head, or having it chopped off, or having a visit to a concentration camp, – is the caper. His trouble of course was, how could he trust leaders like that and similarly, how could he trust the people he had been given to work with and for him. And of course, they seemed to hate his guts as well.

This book was one of the first that introduced Bernie and his travails with mid 20th century German fascist tyranny, to his many dedicated readers. This is little wonder as it sits so easily into recent Western life experience, triggering strong emotional understanding and connection.

The Fuhrer leader, through the agency of his propaganda minister Reichsführer Joseph Goebbels, set out to destroy the Roman control over the German Church, not by overt murder or physical suppression, but he intuited that when push came to shove, the prestige, pay and perks of the religious community leaders and their followers would be enough to run them to ground.

This little book is a real corker and for anyone who hasn’t met Bernie yet, starting off with the Berlin Noir trilogy (of which this is the second) is a great way to commence. Be warned though, you may finish up becoming a fanatical follower.

Oh I forgot to mention, you even get to meet Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler in his guise as a patron of a satanic cult within the senior SS hierarchy. What a ride! – Well before its time, or perhaps Kerr had a bit of the second sight himself. One wonders what he might be thinking of the last two years from the vantage point of his grave?

During this Christmas holiday season, I am currently reading one of the Bernie Gunther series of books, written by the late Philip Kerr, which brings back memories of the great Fascist and Communist tyrannies which flourished last century.

That period also occasioned the final end stage of the Eurocentric Christian religion; started in no small measure by the disastrous engagement of the churches in supporting rather than opposing the rivers of blood flowing from the First World War.

Bernie’s sixteen book life spanned both World Wars and continued into the start of the East German Communist/Socialist era and the modern Capitalist Corporate Fascism.

His creative involvement with the highest levels of both Soviet Communism and Nazi Fascism, draws vivid pictures of how Evil looks.

The death of millions of people, by perpetrators with fanatical desire for power and wealth and control is graphically portrayed in figures like Hitler, Himmler, Heydrich, Bormann, Goebbels, Stalin, Mielke, Honecker etc, figures that dictated fear and death).

In Bernie’s era, the almost century long conflagration was started as a clash of empires leading up to 1914.

It is remarkable how in this century’s era it is again a clash of empires – Military, Economic, Cultural, Technological – that is seeing the rise of great Evil once again; or perhaps still.

It would be interesting to be able to foresee one hundred years into the future and relive what dangers the new Bernie Gunther of our evolving era was facing.

Given the greater power reach of modern tools it may be a horror story of quite some magnitude,
centred on the battle of cultural disintegration in the ‘West’s centre of Empire – the USA and spreading out to its satrapies?

Probable great power wars encompassing all avenues of hybrid war.

• Mass propaganda
• Economic destruction
• Diplomatic failure
• Pandemic biological warfare
• Fossil fuel effective depletion
• Changing climate extremes
• Loss of civil liberties and the demise of human rights
• Secrecy and despair
• Topped off with nuclear war

Bernie’s readers at that time will be looking back through his window and marvelling at how we let it all happen.

That is if there is anything left of this great 14 billion year experiment in consciousness by then, or if what is left will be able to read and write and review.
Maybe some old monastery like sciptoriums producing some manuscipts may still operate somewhere in the dark.
What a bugger it will be if there is something like a domain of consciousness into which one transitions when one physically departs this coil, but, where the shame, pain, sorrow and regret remains from seeing the fruits of one’s wasted chance at physical life.

“As kids, we all had the fun of going to the beach and playing in the sand. Remember taking your plastic bucket and making sandpiles? Slowly pouring the sand into ever bigger piles until one side of the pile starts to collapse?
Imagine, Buchanan says, dropping one grain of sand after another onto a table. A pile soon develops. Eventually, just one grain starts an avalanche. Most of the time, it’s a small one. But sometimes, it builds up, and it seems like one whole side of the pile slides down to the bottom.
Well, in 1987, three physicists named Per Bak, Chao Tang, and Kurt Wiesenfeld began to play the sandpile game in their lab at Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York. Actually, piling up one grain of sand at a time is a slow process, so they wrote a computer program to do it. Not as much fun, but a whole lot faster. Not that they really cared about sandpiles; they were more interested in what are called “nonequilibrium systems.”
They learned some interesting things. What is the typical size of an avalanche? After a huge number of tests with millions of grains of sand, they found out there is no typical number:
Some involved a single grain; others, ten, a hundred, or a thousand. Still others were pile-wide cataclysms involving millions that brought nearly the whole mountain down. At any time, literally anything, it seemed, might be just about to occur.
To find out why [such unpredictability] should show up in their sandpile game, Bak and colleagues next played a trick with their computer. Imagine peering down on the pile from above and coloring it in according to its steepness. Where it is relatively flat and stable, color it green; where steep and, in avalanche terms, “ready to go,” color it red. What do you see? They found that at the outset, the pile looked mostly green, but that, as the pile grew, the green became infiltrated with ever more red. With more grains, the scattering of red danger spots grew until a dense skeleton of instability ran through the pile. Here then was a clue to its peculiar behavior: a grain falling on a red spot can, by domino-like action, cause sliding at other nearby red spots.
If the red network was sparse, and all trouble spots were well isolated one from the other, then a single grain could have only limited repercussions. But when the red spots come to riddle the pile, the consequences of the next grain become fiendishly unpredictable. It might trigger only a few tumblings, or it might instead set off a cataclysmic chain reaction involving millions. The sandpile seemed to have configured itself into a hypersensitive and peculiarly unstable condition in which the next falling grain could trigger a response of any size whatsoever.”

Instead of applying it to the financial sector which Mr. Mauldin did, I would like to highlight a couple of examples in the present moment.

Afghanistan – 20 years of pouring in trillions of grains of sand, one on top of the other until the situation turned critical – about to hit the eutectic point.
And along comes a grain of sand (Donald Trump) who sets the volcano rumbling, on the verge of explosion, by planning to withdraw. And then the final grain of sand – the Taliban – finally starts the unstoppable reaction in motion.
Unstoppable and catastrophic for Empire hegemony.

Pandemic Australia. – 2019 and the start of the pandemic.
A number of grains of sand have been added to the pile over the last 20 months.
Notably: lock-downs, border restrictions, financial ruination of many small businesses, deliberate generation of fear etc.etc. Just some examples of the grains of sand piling up. After some thought you will have plenty of candidates yourself.

The point is thus. Coercive dictates by currently elected officials backed by deeply embedded bureaucrats (Bourgeois Kings and Queens) are piling up. Piling up without us knowing how close we get to an avalanche in societal cohesion.
One might think that the current push-back by a number of churches, or the opposition from the construction workers, are a couple of examples of early signs.
No one of course can predict if, how, when, what, severity of sandpile collapse might take place in the future?

It will be interesting to see if a phase of ‘lightening up’ is embraced to try to cool down the nuclear reactor for a while and enable consolidation of grains. But then again Evil does tend to overdo itself.

The more interesting thing for pew sitters perhaps is how the institutional hierarchy respond in relation to the Jesus story and if it will have any impact on the young, in regard to a possible spiritual lifeline for them. The current youth suicide rate can only be invisible to the wilfully ignorant. It is a much more immediate catastrophe that the longer term climate catastrophe.

A tough call this one, because you have some very small load voices currently allowed to dominate the sound stage, due to the mainstream denominations still being stuck pretty much in their idea of Christendom – not a dialogical approach. – Even though Chistendom’s bell in the West has well and truly tolled at least 50 years ago, but this one dies hard.

This insight can be used by anyone to great effect, for whatever reason they may choose.
For example.
It is sometimes used in religious teaching to illustrate the way that attention is continually focussed on the physical domain, resulting in blindness to even the possibility of their being a spiritual domain, hence resulting in a one-eyed view of reality.
Or.
By fraudsters in the well known three cup and pea shell game for taking your money both over the table top and also ‘picking your pockets’ by assistants.
Or.
Most ubiquitously in the political domain. Many of the brightest brains coming from the University Psychology courses are paid to provide insight into how to use unintentional blindness to cover activities and policies that a normally attentive and intellect capable person would reject.
When coupled with emotional triggers – fear is the classic candidate – it can result in mass hysteria without the hysterics realising what is going on. In other words, putting people to sleep.
Now sleep walking through life is not the most profitable way of taking advantage of this one shot at growth that physical life offers us.
And so.
Ask yourself, what is the shell game being played out in the Western World over the last couple of years?
Then ask yourself who is playing it and why?

As in all ‘political’ questions, it usually turns out to help understanding, by ‘following the money’.
And where at the moment has the money gone to and from whom has it been appropriated?

If we remember the dictum ‘energy is the economy’ the more you pump in, the more growth you get, and the more scarce it gets, the greater the contraction.
Then the wolves have to work harder to get what they think is their right – at the expense of the sheep. And get it while they still can.

The poorer you get, the less ‘freedom’ you have and of course more coercion capacity needs to be put in place to keep you in line. Keeping you isolated is an obvious strategy along those lines and keeping the exchange of different ideas suppressed is absolutely paramount.

Calling to Prayer
Calling to prayer a past life’s fate.
How is it possible we have learned naught to date
with every avenue available
as history and their horrific debacles
and loss to millions or more during a war
but too of starving
not so much when it comes to one offshore?

But now as the economic divides
who as you West are to now survive?

We are often praying
when the rough hits and no place earthly exists
but when the past history does, why have we ignored
as epidemic, pandemic in all its various economic waves hit,
like the form of a greedy few
plan around wealth as to who has what
and preparing to send warring the likes of you.

Calling prayerfully
does not stop an arrow fired by the enemy to you.
Calling to a prayerful life
hidden behind bars of steel fortified might.

But in the event of an economical melt down
granted you are not a governmental toy or arm
to those few lot who are to live to plot
the next violent oppressive-ness toward life for us
to become puppets in their defence to succumb?

We are the ones not prayer alone
to raise a banner and stand for life not be owned.
